BSNL loss declines to Rs 2,785 Crore, Revenue Increases 10 Percent, Company to Launch 5G Service Next Year

The net loss of government telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has come down to about Rs 2,785 crore in the first half of the current financial year. In the same quarter of the last financial year, this loss was about Rs 2,951 crore. BSNL has gained lakhs of new subscribers in the last few months.

a media Report Quoting the financial statements of the company, it has been told that in the first half of the current financial year, BSNL’s revenue from operations has increased by about 10.4 percent on year-on-year basis to about Rs 9,235 crore. The company has registered growth in revenue across all its segments including consumer mobility. Its total expenditure also increased by about 4.5 percent on year-on-year basis to about Rs 12,890 crore. This includes employee costs of approximately Rs 4,042 crore. The share of employee cost in the total expenses of BSNL is about 31 percent. The company plans to launch 5G network next year.

The company has registered operating profit in the first half of this financial year. BSNL’s EBITDA stands at Rs 904 crore, up nearly 57 per cent. In the first half of the current financial year, the company has acquired lakhs of new subscribers. During April to September, a large number of subscribers of big private telecom companies like Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio have decreased.

According to data from telecom regulator TRAI, the number of Airtel subscribers was around 38.65 crore in April, which came down to around 38.49 crore in September. Reliance Jio had 47.24 crore subscribers in April but this number fell to about 46.37 crore in September. Apart from this, Vodafone-Idea had about 21.9 crore subscribers in April, which decreased to 21.24 crore in September. During this period, the number of BSNL subscribers has increased from 8.68 crore to approximately 9.18 crore. Data from Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) shows that the number of subscribers of private telecom companies started declining from June and the number of subscribers of BSNL started increasing from the same month. Recently BSNL launched Wi-Fi roaming service for its Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) subscribers. With this, the company’s FTTH subscribers will be able to connect to Wi-Fi hotspots across the country.
