Government Warns to Ignore Calls from These Foreign Codes For Safety from Digital scams

In the last few years, cases of scams through mobile have increased rapidly. In such cases, criminals threaten their victims and pressure them to transfer money. Generally, these criminals run their network from abroad to avoid detection by law enforcement agencies.

The Department of Telecom (DoT) has issued a ban on social media platform Post It is advised to be cautious about calls coming from some foreign codes. These codes include +77, +84, +85, +86 and +89. According to a report by the Ministry of Home Affairs, scammers have defrauded the country of approximately Rs 2,140 crore in the first 10 months of this year.

Recently, the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Center (I4C) and DoT had blocked at least 17,000 WhatsApp accounts of foreign hackers. Its aim is to destroy foreign criminal networks and enhance the digital security of the country. In May this year, the Ministry of Home Affairs had formed an inter-ministerial committee to tackle the rise in organized cybercrime from South East Asian countries like Cambodia, Philippines, Laos and Myanmar. I4C has taken several steps to destroy the infrastructure these hackers use. I4C investigation has revealed that cyber criminals are using investment opportunities, games, dating apps to lure people into their trap. Offers cryptocurrency and fiat trading platforms.
