International Survey Finds More than 90 Percent of EV Owners Will not Buy Petrol or Diesel Vehicle Again

The number of electric vehicles (EV) has increased rapidly in the last few years. EV does not cause pollution and the cost of running it is also low. Most of the people involved in an international survey regarding these vehicles have said that they will not buy a vehicle with petrol or diesel engine again.

The Global EV Driver Survey was conducted by the Global EV Alliance, a network of some electric vehicle drivers’ associations. In this survey, questions were asked from about 23,000 EV owners in 18 countries including India. a media Report Quoting this survey, it has been told that 97 percent of EV owners say that they are satisfied with their electric vehicle. Asked whether they would replace their current EV, about 92 percent said they would replace it with another EV and four percent said their new vehicle would be a plug-in hybrid. About one percent of the people involved in this survey said that their next car will be with petrol or diesel engine.

The reasons for buying an EV were also emphasized in this survey. Most of the people said that the low cost of running an electric vehicle was the main reason for them to buy it. Apart from this, a large number of people have also chosen these vehicles because they are better for the environment. On the question of the primary location for charging EVs, about 72 percent of those surveyed said they use home-charging points. About 13 percent reported that they charge their EVs with fast chargers. When asked about the challenges regarding electric vehicles, most people said that they do not see any major challenges. However, many others said that there are challenges like fast-charging points and slow charging.

In India too, the central government has taken measures to promote electric vehicles. Recently the Central Government had approved two schemes worth Rs 14,335 crore. It aims to promote EVs including buses, ambulances and trucks and reduce pollution. These schemes include PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) and PM-eBus Sewa-Payment Security Mechanism (PSM). Around Rs 10,900 crore will be allocated for PM E-DRIVE and around Rs 3,435 crore will be allocated for PSM. PM E-DRIVE can be very helpful in reducing pollution. Under this scheme, subsidies/demand incentives worth Rs 3,679 crore will be made available for electric two-wheelers, electric three-wheelers, electric ambulances and electric trucks.
