According to the judgment document of the Consumer Commission (District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission), a customer had purchased Ola S1 Pro electric scooter with extended warranty and Ola Care Plan in June 2022. Apart from this, the customer also got Ola’s hypercharger installed at his home and he paid a total of Rs 1,63,986 for this entire package. However, from the very beginning, users faced some other problems along with battery in Ola e-scooter. There was a need to replace the charging system of the scooter only after 10 days of delivery. Soon after, battery issues surfaced, causing the scooter to stop functioning.
The report further states that despite repeated complaints being lodged by users, there was an inadequate response from Ola Electric. A few days after purchase, the complainant did not even get a chance to ride his e-scooter, because the company had kept the inspection e-scooter with itself in August 2023. After this, the complainant issued a legal notice on October 31, 2023, demanding a refund, which Ola also ignored.
After this, the Consumer Commission issued a notice to Ola Electric in response to the complaint, but this was also ignored by the company. As a result, the Commission granted the ex-parte order to Ola on March 11, 2024. In its decision, the consumer commission directed Ola Electric to refund the entire payment of Rs 1,63,549 made for the e-scooter. Apart from this, the company has also been ordered to pay interest at 9% per annum from the date of purchase of the e-scooter till the date of judgment.
The document says that if the company does not do so for 45 days, the interest rate will be 12% per annum. Not only this, the complainant has also been ordered to pay Rs 10,000 as compensation for the harassment and mental stress caused by this incident.
