WhatsApp in India bans millions of accounts every month in compliance with information technology. According to the social media platform’s monthly compliance report under the new IT Rules 2021, WhatsApp received 8,161 complaints from the country and the records of “actioned” were 97, which means WhatsApp took remedial action. WhatsApp also said that it received two orders from the Grievance Appellate Committee in the country and both were complied with.
While WhatsApp allows its users to report accounts, the platform also uses an on-platform abuse detection system that can proactively detect policy violations. As per existing rules, WhatsApp receives complaints from users through email sent to grievance_officer_wa@support.whatsapp.com and through mail sent to India Grievance Officer by post.
Let us tell you that between August 1, 2024 and August 31, 2024, 8,458,000 WhatsApp accounts were banned. At that time the platform had said that 1,661,000 of these accounts had been proactively banned.
